Blind to the Sand-

SurReal_Edʒəpd

The sand is cutting  my skin, but I will not stop and go back, it is too late. From birth, I had many speeches. I can give two fucks what they think I should be. If my mother can take care of three kids all alone why the fuck can I not be a musician/producer/audio engineer. This kid here was born different. Not all deserts had a star like the one I did, my mother, she is the star I chase and when she’s gone she will still be the star I'll look up to.
We all start somewhere in life, my life is at a playground where everything looks too big to me. People say, “that boy is going to be a doctor, enginerring, coach, etc”...we all get that. But why can I not pick what I want to be. I wasn’t even born yet and I was getting these names already. Stop telling others and let me be. I was not born as a mistake, but a gift from the heavens, that's what I believe. The beginning of music for me started as an infant or from the start when I was in my mother's belly when she was pregnant with me. The parties, television, radio, and wherever else sounds came from like the wind, the ocean, and the bell from church, all the energy transferred into me. In her womb a strong confident child came to life.
Raised by a single "Blackish"(she’s not black) Dominican mother who gave birth to a marvelous child at the age of 17.Times were hard, but she always played music so she can ease her pain. My father never really raised me from what I can remember, but I do love the guy and I know his favorite genre of music is "Bachata". My mother’s favorite type of music changes a lot, for example, when I was born she listened to Reggae and Bachata, but then it changed to some very old music from her father’s time which was weird to me, but this happened when she had the guts to leave my father. My parents had no musical skills or talent, but my mom did have something, she could dance that I can remember in her early 20s. She stopped dancing when she gave her soul to God and became sort of religious.
In elementary school, I took my first class in music which was voicing. I do not remember much, but I do know I was a very energetic child and that my teacher was always proud to see me when I came to class. I guess it’s because it’s one of those classes where I did not need to do any writing (I dislike writing); I'm an active person who likes to do physical things. Many would say that I had no musical talent during elementary school and middle school which they were right because I never really learned how to play any instruments up to the beginning of my college year. I always loved music, but had no talent so I played sports which I was really good at. Once I started being negative and denying myself of course I felt like giving up because of my environment. But if you ask any musicians they would say that it is not easy and they all have tough times creating music and bringing it out to the world. Some people have to see it to believe or see how many fans you have. Also, they will judge me because of the way I acted in school, just because I'm smart and athletic which should not mean that I cannot do music. There's no limit to a human being.
I can remember my first and second favorite artists “Ricky Martin” and then “Ricky Iglesia”. I believe I was four years old and I use to see them on t.v all the time. I was not a big fan of spanish music, but these guys I can always go back and listen to. I love music, I do not know why, but I just do. I guess it comes from my parents because mostly spanish music is romantic from what I know of. Around 7 or 8 years old I was bumping to Don Omar and 50 Cent, I was into this Reggaeton and hip-hop life. The first time I ever recorded anybody, it all happened in school when everybody was bumping to Don Omar and 50 Cent. Not trying to be stereo, but most of my friends are black so of course they was rapping like 50 Cent. So my friends were rapping to a beat on the school computer somewhere on YouTube. There was a program on the computer where you can record. So I was sort of a geek you can say, on the computer, since I could not rap and my friends did, I recorded them on the computer. It was so dope back then for me. Then when I turned 11 or 12 my favorite genre of music became R&B, artist R Kelly and Trey Songz. My native language is Spanish, but I’m more fluent in English. So love songs in English are so dope to me. R&B came to me even more when I met my best friend….

Introduction

SurReal Edʒəpd (Egypd)-

A young kid in his 20s from New York, traveling from borough to borough trying to make a living without failing his family. Life has given me a challenging road throughout my school years, where physical obstacles did not hold me back, but I struggled academically. Like R.Kelly, who is one of my biggest musical inspirations, I faced challenges in reading and writing. I was not able to read and write well, but as time went by I was able to develop my skills and grow out of that slump. I am able to read, write, and do so much more. In the beginning, music was not apart of my daily life, like most males, sports was the way out. I live in a neighborhood that is typically classified as the "ghetto", “hood”, “the projects” and otherwise known as “Housing”. The way out was to make to the NBA, MLB, or the NFL unless you’re very smart and aspire to do something practical. In school, I made every team I tried out for except for the college basketball team, which was very disappointing. Basketball is something I like to do, but it is not what I'm best at, however, as far as track and field (Pole Vault) I consider myself a monster. I was very athletic and could run a great distance and this was when I started building my music skills. Freshman year of high-school, I was supposed to play basketball, but instead I joined the Track team to do something different. I did not know that I was good in it, until I did my first race and came in 2nd place and could have come in first if I knew where I was going. My desert is where I train, everyday running miles sometimes without water and the sun beaming down on me. I can run 20 miles with no problem, so physically I'm in shape. The same time while I was running track I was building blocks in my music career to build a platform. When I was first starting music I had a real hard time; I personally do not want to say this, but I like to say the truth, I sucked, I was tone deaf. Admitting that is the hardest thing for me because I have a huge pride, I do not like people putting me lower or beneath them. My best friend is the man I look up to because he shared his knowledge of music with me and he’s also the guy who taught me how to learn music by listening. When I met him he was a drummer and a percussion player so he knew music way more than and I did, which made me jealous during the time, but I was also inspired. He taught me how to make instrumentals through a computer since I did not have any instruments. Everyday I practiced, building my pyramid to one day have the best foundation for myself and to be honest this pyramid was not so pretty. Making instrumentals was not my foreplay, however, I met his cousin and he taught me how to engineer the instrumentals, mixing wise. So I built two talents which was mixing and being creative with the sounds (sound designs and new waves). Then his cousin introduced me to his friend, who was just starting to do music also. It was four of us with all different skills, but when we put them together we created a bomb together. Each of us had our own identity. Eventually, we broke up like every band, into two groups in which I stayed with my best friend. We all separated, because we needed to get better and the best way is to lose the weights and build yourself. I was working on building my ears mainly while the others had their own occupations. Further on, I went to college to study music at LaGuardia CC and I am currently about to graduate to transfer to Brooklyn College next and study music there to get a bachelor degree. While studying music at LaGuardia CC I learned different things including music theory, music history, piano, mixing etc. I was obtaining all the basics for music in every aspect. Now that my pyramid was becoming stable I needed to know what was out there. At this time, the band came back together for a bit, we made dope beats all together which was pretty cool. Unfortunately, we separated again, but this time I stayed doing music with my best friend cousin’s friend. We never hit that point to do music together up to now, on a one on one level. For now that’s all...goodnight. Any comments or questions... I have no problem of answering...There's more stories why I call myself Edʒəpd(Egypd).
